working this story all morning. we're live at the sheriff's office in santa rosa with the details. >> reporter: i just spoke with investigators, and they tell me that the body found in that trunk is that of a 31-year-old man, a sonoma county resident, who was actually a suspect in a domestic violence incident just last week in santa rosa. now, the car that he was found stuffed in was on petaluma hill will road which happens to go past sonoma state university but the school was not involved at all. it was about 6:30 last night when two deputies noticed a car in a no parking zone. they got out and actually saw blood in the driver's side seat. that car had been tied to a domestic violence incident last week in santa rosa so that's what raised the red flag. it turns out the car had been sitting there since saturday. investigators saw that the trunk was unlocked and found the victim dead, wrapped in a blanket. now, they're not saying how he was killed, but they do say he had a criminal history and that could be related to all this. and it's possible he was killed somewhere else and lef

joins us now at the santa rosa sheriff's department with new details about the very suspicious death. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and jon. sheriff's deputies are trying to get to the bottom of a very disturbing situation that started with an investigation of a suspicious car near sonoma state university. suspicious because of where it was parked. in the end they ended up finding a body in the trunk of a car wrapped in a blanket. they have not identified the victim or even how this person died but their investigation started around 6:30 last night with a car left in a no parking zone on petaluma hill road. a check of the license plate showed the car was tied to a person wanted for questioning in a crime that happened on friday near santa rosa. deputies looked closer and found evidence inside that they thought my have been tied to that crime on friday. they're not revealing a lot of information on what that crime was. again they looked closer. they found that the trunk was unlocked and inside was that body wrapped in a blanket. a lieutenant says the location a

some rain drops into santa rosa and points to the south including san rafael. the other big talk this hour are the mild temperatures. yes, it is cold out here. 42 in santa rosa. 47 in napa. it hasn't been this mild at this time of the night in more than two weeks. you may be saving on that electricity bill. at least a little bit here as we head throughout tonight. let's get you out to that network. there is haze. even with the chance of showers moving in, that will kick out of here as we head into the next 24 hours. let's get you back to the weather boards. here's the complex picture. we have the cold front sitting offshore and look at this huge plume of sub tropical moisture. that will help fuel that chance of showers. it is creating a very complex weather situation in the upper level energy. what you should know, temperatures will cool off tomorrow. we'll keep that chance of showers and it will have a little bit of a sub tropical feel. so increasing humidity through the forecast. what will this mean? widespread cloud cover. we cannot even rule out the chance here of a chance of show

right now in livermore. san jose, also chilly. 36 degrees. 29 in santa rosa. and low 30s in napa. winds slightly offshore. speaking of the winds, let's take you out to half moon bay right now. water temperatures 52 degrees. offshore swell about eight feet. that has been going up and down long periods. as that energy slows down as it approaches the coastline, waves rise up. you'll see the breakers really getting up there, 15, 20 feet, higher sets around pillar point. temperatures will be nice. once we lose the chill of the morning. 60s, maybe near 70 on the coast. dry weather will wrap up the weekend and likely be around for the first half of the week ahead. right now satellite view shows clear skies and storms that are trying to reach the west coast, are hitting the brakes. high pressure is acting like a wall, setting the storm track way off to the north. this dry pattern will hold at least through tuesday. maybe we'll have some showers to the north bay on wednesday. this pattern will get out of here by late friday and saturday, that's when the next best chance of rain comes in n

maybe the 20s continuing into thursday's forecast. here we go. we will start off with 27 in santa rosa. and 26 in napa, 34 in fremont, and 33 in san jose, and our coldest spot is at gilroy at an estimated 25 degrees. now that 25 will be more than ten degrees below our average low, but here is some good news. it's not going to be the coldest morning ever in gilroy. that happened in 1963 when gilroy topped out at 18 degrees for a morning low. there's something to make you feel not so bad about weaking up with temperatures in the mid 20s. we will see san jose top out at 56, 54 in palo alto. and dublin, 51 and 53 in heyward. and san francisco 53, and 56 in santa rosa. on your three-day forecast. drew through thursday and then through the forecast, we have plenty of sunshine coming our way in the up coming weekend. it's not going to get warm or mild but temperatures will eventually bump up to the 60s here as we head throughout friday. so, definitely not a heat spell, but i think you will notice a difference as we head throughout friday's forecast. >> 60s seem boiling hot. >> i know, right?

cold tomorrow. 27 in santa rosa. 30 in napa. 29 in concord and livermore. san jose, 36 degrees. tomorrow again we are expecting another warm day. not as warm as today. a lot of that heating has spread across the area. temperatures tomorrow more uniform across the board. 64 in santa rosa. 64 in livermore. 63 in san francisco. not as wa the mavericks in town for tomorrow. that's when we expect some of the highest surf across the area. the first round begins at 8:00. you can catch this on nbcbayarea.com. we will be streaming it all day long. the temperatures comfortable, but not as warm as it was today. 67 for the high temperature tomorrow at half moon bay. as far as your seven-day forecast, the warm weather will stick around for the next couple of days. you'll notice by tuesday, a few clouds drift in. that's going to cool us a bit. the system scoots to our north on wednesday. that will offer a few showers if you live in the north bay, otherwise not a big storm system in the next seven days. there will be a cut-off low that drifts across the pacific over wednesday, thursday, frida

, the surfer got stuck on a rock just off of ocean beach in santa rosa, near the cliff house restaurant. he climbed up the rock away from the pounding surf to wait for help. two u.s. coast guard swimmers actually paddled out to the rock, the surfer then climbed down, after a long hesitation, he waited and waited and then jumped back in the water and the three paddled through rough surf to calmer waters where a boat picked them up and carried them to safety. >> caltrans crews will start to repair sections of the bay bridge that was damaged. beginning tomorrow, workers will replace the fenders on the western tower. they were destroyed when a ship sideswiped the bridge. the pier itself was not damaged. the repairs are expected to last about 4-1/2 months. the ntsb and coast guard say it could take several months to determine the exact cause of the crash. >> in health matters tonight, regular aspirin users may have an increased risk for blindness. researchers in australia study aspirin users and said that those that use it once or more a week has more risk for macular degeneration

rosa. 33 in livermore. and 39 in san jose. a cold spot in gilroy. close to the 20s across parts of the bay area. if you've been on vacation. let's say you're coming back tonight and getting ready tomorrow. most critical spots will see patchy forecast are the areas in purple. for the north bay, all of the interior valleys. also, back for all of the trivalley and for the south bay. that's where we'll have widespread 20s and 30s. if you haven't covered up the plants, they likely suffered some damage. and please remember the pets. they need to come inside, as well. tomorrow morning, some things you want to think about before you get in the car. and start that engine. usually need about three-times the normal amount of distance to stop if you hit a patch of ice. make sure you keep plenty of distance between you and the car in front of you. if you hit ice, brake gently to avoid skidding. and be careful over our bridges and overpasses. those tend to freeze first. we're not expecting widespread icing. but it's something to think about. you can see it's clear in san jose for tonight. and in

gilroy, 35 in san jose, 39 in oakland, 30 in santa rosa. we're expecting to see a bright day, lots of sunshine, going to warm us quickly, just as many of us got close to 0 degrees yesterday we're looking at a similar situation today, santa cruz at 71 degrees, our warm spot with the strong offshore flow. san francisco at 69 and same for oakland and san jose at 68. there is one word of caution, there is a high surf advisory this weekend so with the warm temperatures you may be tempted to get out to the beach. definitely avoid prolonged periods of turning your back on the beach. we're expecting swells, chris, up to 20 to 30 feet. the mavericks are taking place tomorrow so if you are going to be spectating, use extreme caution and remember the swells can come 20 to 30 seconds and this means that a lot of that pullback into the ocean you may just think it's over but once the waves come back it's very strong. >> don't turn your back, watch over the kids and the pets. thank you, anthony. >>> to a developing story involving the 49ers, the investigation continues this morning into an allege

on the 60s in places like san jose, napa and santa rosa. we'll round out the day at 70 degrees in gilroy. 70 for santa theresa. 67 degrees in beautiful downtown san jose. now, if you are going to be headed out to the mavericks competition, want to talk about such a treat we have in store for you. the reason for those big waves is this storm system 1,500 miles away. as we head throughout the afternoon hours on saturday and sunday, temperatures close to 70 degrees at some of your beaches. it will be absolutely perfect. however, if you will head out for the beginning of the day, you want to remember to bring your coat. it's still going to be a little bit on the chilly side at 8:00 a.m. temperatures around 47 degrees. 1:00 p.m. look at your high. 69 degrees for the mavericks. that's perfect for viewing. bring that sunscreen. a high uv index. let's check on your drive. motorcycles out there later this weekend. >> probably because of the sunny skies and so we will alert folks smaller vehicles like motorcycles increased awareness is reanecessary for rest of the drivers. easy flow for the

concord. 34 in santa rosa. for the first time in several nights, no 20s on the board. that's the large news. high pressure building offshore. that's going to continue to warm us up as we head throughout the next two days. it's not going to get hot. a little on the warm side, but for most of us it's going to be mild, yes, with a lot of sunshine. a lot of us are going to be thawing out throughout the next couple of days. let's look at who could hit 70 degrees throughout saturday. saratoga from 66 today to 70 on saturday. santa cruz from 61 to 70. even san jose could pop up to an estimated 68 by the first part of your weekend. tomorrow morning it will be chilly, upper 20s and low 30s with areas of patchy frost in the north bay and east bay. 34 in san jose. al slightly warmer in the morning. throughout the afternoon we'll see daytime highs top out in mid-60s. hazy sunshine. 64 in santa rosa. about a 30-degree jump from the after. 63 in san jose. time for the toyota tahoe report. latest conditions at sqauw valley. temperatures in the upper 30s and a lot of snow to go skiing. snow base at 68

reporting live in santa rosa, i'm christie smith. back to you guys. >>> we are also following breaking news out of crockett this morning where fire crews are on the scene of a fire near the carquinez bridge. it's an abandoned house burning. it's said to be at least 100 years old and firefighters are fighting it from the outside. we have a crew heading to the scene there. we have more information and video as soon as with he get it. >>> a woman facing charges in the death of a millionaire will be in court this afternoon. raven dixon one of four people accused in the murder of ravi kumra inside of his home. the 22 year old from alameda being charged with prostitution, furnishing a controlled substance and being an accessory after the fact in kumra's death. prosecutors have not revealed how she is connected to the other three suspects who are all being charged with murder. her attorney says she intends to plead not guilty. >>> new details this morning into the investigation of the oil tanker that sideswiped the bay bridge last week. investigators tell nbc bay area news group the pilot guy

north bay, santa rosa at 37. this is where we're going to find our coldest locations tonight with a little frost possible tomorrow morning and a few 20s. we're clear for the most part and will stay clear. temperatures will be similar to where we were today, a few 60s and 70s and that poor air quality is going to continue to suffer because we have been dealing with warm weather, unusual for this time of year. the toyota tahoe ski report this evening, squaw favalley checkin in with 40 inches. and squaw meadow, 66 inches. if you are taking time to head up to the tahoe area, bundle up. even across the bay area tonight, temperatures are going to be cold everywhere you go. some of our coldest locations again there in the north bay, even in the east bay, 29 in concord, livermore as well. tomorrow another bright day but we're starting off cold. it's going to be one of those days where we peak with our temperatures around noon and 1:00. santa cruz, you'll be at 66 and half moon bay will top out very close to 70 degrees tomorrow. the mavericks festival, we have that high wave watch in effect.
